I thought I would re-do our BSN Hyper FX review and this time add some video to furither discuss my experiences with the product.

BSN has done it again.  Building on the popularity of their pre-workout blockbuster NO Xplode, BSN Hyper FX has burst onto the scene and hit the pre-workout supplement market by storm.  This review will serve as a basis to help you find the best pre-workout supplement.

I have now gone through three tubs of BSN’s Hyper FX and it has regularly provided me with a quick energy boost, increased alertness and actually tasted pretty good.  When consuming pre-workout supplements, I used a combination of MusclePharm Assault, NO Xplode and Hyper FX by alternating the one I use every week.  I feel doing this increased the effects of each supplement and my body didn’t get used to the same stimulant over and over.

BSN’s Hyper FX does have 270mg of caffeine per serving, so be sure to drink plenty of water if you decide to use this supplement.  Also, the bottle says not to shake it…but to stir it with a spoon.  Reason being is this is an effervescent product and releases some sort of gas when it dissolves.  If you shake it up in a shaker cup, it will blow the cap open and go everywhere!  I’ve also experienced this with NO Xplode.

Pros:

• Quick Acting
• Great, quick energy boost that sustains through the workout
• Does not leave you jittery
• Pretty good tasting, mixes well
• Affordable – About $20

Cons:

• Can not shake it, must stir
• Sometimes some granules don’t mix completely and when you get them on your tongue it burns

How does Hyper FX Work?

Hyper FX is an effervescent concentrated fruit flavored drink that contains a number of ingredients combined in a proprietary mix. Listed are just some of the more important components:

Beta-alanine boosts synthesis of amino acid carnosine, which is responsible for muscle endurance, strength, muscle mass and prolonged energy.

Taurine is an amino acid that helps regulate the level of salt and water in the blood and has antioxidant properties. Combined with caffeine, it is supposed to boost mental performance and focus, but the findings are controversial.

Adenosine is a nucleotide that plays role in tissue repair and reconstruction and plays an important role in energy transfer.

Choline Bitartrate increases acetylcholine neurotransmitter levels and as such improves mental focus and alertness.

Caffeine is commonly present in all energy supplements as an energy booster.

Bitter Orange Extract is stimulant and appetite suppressant. Its active ingredient synephrine is chemically similar to ephedrine, which is illegal, can cause heart arrhythmias and has been known to cause heart attack in healthy young men.

Toothed (Chinese) club moss, or its active ingredient huperzine, is used for treating memory problems and Alzheimer’s disease. As a supplement it is used to prevent swelling, fever and as a diuretic.

Lesser Periwinkle is used for better blood circulation, especially of the brain. It enhances metabolism in the brain and helps in treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This plant contains more than 50 active alkaloids with different effects.

Side Effects

While no negative side effects have been reported, several ingredients have potential for causing serious health problems, especially synephrine, an active ingredient in bitter orange concentrate. It is always a good idea to consult a physician before starting with a new supplement.  Show your doctor the ingredients and he will tell you if some of them might be counteindicative for your health condition.
