This simple trick will show you how to make vegetables last longer in the fridge. This trick will also work for some fruits as well. This trick is quite simple. When your fruits and veggies are in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or tupperware container, they continue to release moisture. This moisture accumulates at the bottom of your container, your fruits and veggies sit in it, and that moisture promotes bacteria and decay. The simple trick is to first, wash your produce well and shake off all excess water, THEN… put a few sheets of paper towel in the bottom of your container or plastic bag. The paper towel will absorb all the excess moisture. If the paper towel gets too wet after a few days, just replace it with a dry one! You’ll increase the lifetime of your vegetables by several days!
This Method works well for the following (but is not limited to this list)
- Carrots and other root vegetables
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Snap Peas
- Green Peppers
- Celery
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Strawberries
- Grapes
