Beginners or even people who have been working out for quite a while will often make some mistakes when working out. From using poor form to not stretching properly, avoiding these five training mistakes can improve your gains and prevent injury.
1. Poor Form
Throw your ego out the window lower your weight and use proper form. Proper execution of your movements with full range of motion is more beneficial at a lower weight than using improper form, momentium and super heavy weights. When it comes to strength training and avoiding injury proper form is key!
2. Pick a Training Program and Stick To It
You need goals. You need a training program designed to meet your goals. You can spend hours, months or years in the gym and have minimal gains if your training program blows or is non-existent.
3. Not Being Mentally Prepared
You need to be focused and prepared to hit the gym. Mental focus and preparation are almost as important as actually performing your workout. You won't see any benefits by simply going through the motions. Get mentally focused, take your supplements, get plenty of sleep and be mentally ready to hit your workout hard.
4. Giving Up on Your Training Plan or Switching Too Frequently
Don't skip your rest days. If you have a rest day or a light/cardio day - don't skip it and go heavy. Your body needs to recover and your training program should be designed in a way where each day is thought out and there for a purpose. Not resting properly can lead to injury and ultimately not being able to finish the program.
5. Not Warming-Up or Stretching
Avoid stiffness and prevent injury by warming up properly and stretching. Your warm-up should include stretching and some light cardio to get your blood pumping throughout your body. Go on a brisk 2-3 minute walk followed by some stretching. Your stretching session should last between 8 and 10 minutes.
