"Hey, how did you get so HUGE?"
These are a few of the emails, comments, messages I have received lately. So, in this article, I am going to share with you my tips on getting HUGE! These tips are not top secret, I didn't invent them, I don't have some secret magic potion that will turn you in to the hulk, and I don't know of any workout that will transform your body in one week.
Instead, the tips I am going to provide are pretty simple. It comes down to 6 words: WORK HARD, LIFT HEAVY, EAT RIGHT. That's all there is to it. Follow these 3 simple tips and you should be on your way to Hugeness!
Work Hard:
It is what it says it is. When you hit the gym, or the garage, or your basement, or wherever you go to work out, you gotta hit it with intensity. I don't care what kind of workout you are doing, if you are putting in the work, you are going to get results, period. However, if you just hit the gym with your buddies, lolly-gag through a couple sets of curls, then head over to the ab machine, you are not going to see the results you want. Have your workout planned out, hit the gym, then work hard and smash it to pieces.
Lift Heavy:
This goes hand in hand with tip #1. In order to get stronger and see results, you need to be lifting heavy a$$ weights. This frame of mind was utilized by the famous Ronnie Coleman. Now, what is heavy for you, might not be heavy for some other guy. The point is, you need to be lifting as heavy as possible while maintaining decent form, and working hard enough to hit failure or almost failure each and every set. This includes increasing the weight with each subsequent set, each workout, or each week. If you hit the gym and continue to perform 3 sets of 10 on the bench press with 135lbs week after week, you are not doing your body any justice. Increase the weight, lift heavy, and hit failure, or almost failure each set. With lifting heavy, I also include performing heavy compound lifts such as squats, bench press, military press, and deadlifts.
Eat Right:
This is actually probably the hardest one. It definitely is the hardest one to START doing. But let me tell you, once you start, and you start seeing results, it is just as hard to change back to your old ways. Now by eating right, you do not have to be super strict. My general rules of thumb are: 1. Eat a minimum number of grams of protein equal to your body weight per day. Example: if you weigh 160lbs, eat 160 grams of protein per day minimum. If you are eating this much protein every day, it actually makes it pretty difficult to eat a lot of other "garbage." 2. Limit fat intake to no more than 20% of your daily calories 3. Do not be afraid to have a cheat meal, or a cheat day. It is one of the ways to stay sane, and to actually continue a successful diet plan. Just remember, if you take a cheat meal, or a cheat day, it is just that, ONE meal, or ONE day. Make sure to get back on track the next meal or the next day!
That's it. Work Hard, Lift Heavy, and Eat Right. A lot of the meals I typically eat are posted on the site, and practically all of my workouts are on here. Try them out, and put these 3 tips to the test.
Stay Huge,
Gabe
