I don't eat much fat in my diet. I figure that the less fatty foods I eat, the healthier I will be. However, you can't completely eliminate fats from your nutrition plan, you just need to be selective on the types of fats you put into your body. Almonds are one of my "go-to" healthy fat sources.

The Health Benefits of Almonds are off the charts. There are so many benefits to consuming almonds it is "nuts" that more people don't include them in their daily diet.

Almonds can provide relief from the following:

  • Constipation
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Cough
  • Anemia
  • Impotency
  • Diabetes

Aside from the health benefits, almonds are also very nutritious

Almonds are a rich source of vitamin E, calcium, phosphorous, iron and magnesium. Almonds also contain zinc, selenium, copper and niacin. Almonds contain the highest number of nutrients in comparison to all other nuts.

How To Eat Almonds

You can eat almonds raw, smoked or as almond butter. A lesser known way to eat your almonds is to soak them in water overnight and eat in the morning. You can also garnish salads, fish, oatmeal and other main dishes with crushed almonds for an extra nutty flavor.

When Should I Eat My Almonds?

You can eat almonds at any time throughout the day. I usually consume my handful of almonds along with a casein protein shake 1 to 2 hours before bedtime. This provides my body with a sustained release protein and slow digesting healthy fats to fuel my muscle growth and recovery while I sleep.

Eat Your Almonds in Moderation

Almonds, even though they are good for you, are a very calorie and fat dense food source. This means you should eat them in moderation. Don't sit down and eat an entire can of almonds or almond butter and believe you are being healthy because you're eating almonds. You can easily go over your daily caloric limit and fat limit by eating too many almonds. A typical serving size is about 21 almonds and 2 tbsp of almond butter. That is all you need to reap the benefits of almonds!
