If there is one fruit I rarely purchase, it is my good ole buddy the apricot. I usually stick to the staples of apples, oranges, bananas and occasionally pears, peaches and grapes. That being said, there are some great benefits to diversifying your fruit intake. Be it getting a wider range of antioxidants, higher levels of certain nutrients and vitamins or just keeping it interesting, it is important to eat a wide variety of fruits. That being said, since Apricots are a fruit I seldom eat raw (I usually eat them dried) I decided to dedicate this post to my forgotten little, round orange buddy the Apricot.

Health Benefits of Apricots

  1. Apricots are high in beta-carotene and lycopene - these help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
  2. Apricots are high in fiber
  3. Apricots are high in vitamins A & C
  4. Apricots contain solid levels of potassium (keep your muscles from cramping)

General Information on Apricots

  • A ripe apricot will taste smooth and sweet - there may be a hint of tart
  • Apricot flavor is most closely related to peaches and plums
