If you are new to training or have been hitting the gym for ever, you have probably at one time or another (or maybe even still) have had some issues with your training. Be it early fatigue or prolonged muscle soreness, these types of issues can not only hider your workouts, but also put a damper on your state of mind. Below you'll find a few common training issues and some supplements you can try to fix your specific issue.
Prolonged Muscle Soreness
It is normal to be sore after a good workout. And if you're just starting to lift weights, you may be sore for a few days. However, eventually your soreness should last no longer than a day and it shouldn't keep you from hitting the gym. If you find that your're constantly sore, it may be time to add some Glutamine to your supplementation regimen. Glutamine is well-known for speeding up muscle recovery meaning you can hit the gym on a regular basis.
No Energy To Workout
If you feel sluggish and it takes every ounce of energy you have to get off your butt and hit the gym - first ensure you're getting enough sleep. If you are indeed getting plenty of sleep, you may benefit from a pre-workout supplement that contains our good buddy caffeine. To get the maximum effect from a pre-workout caffeine dose, you should aim to cut out all other caffeine from your daily diet.
Muscle Cramps
Nothing is worse than a back spasm, a calf that turns into a baseball or a locked-up hammie. If you suffer from muscle cramps it's a sure-fire to halt your workout dead in its tracks. Like my wrestling coach used to tell us - GO EAT SOME BANANAS! And turns out he was right - bananas are loaded with potassium - a key mineral known for preventing muscle cramps! Also, if you're eating low fat and fat free foods, you may be consuming hither sodium in your diet - the added potassium from the bananas will actually help regulate your sodium levels (since sodium and potassium are buddies on the periodic table).
Supplements are not always the answer, but if you're having a specific problem there are some supplements that can target certain issues such as soreness, lack of energy and cramping.
