I am currently on the road for grad school. The school is only 75 miles away, so I usually make the drive in the morning and back home at night. However, today we are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow and the roads are already pretty icy, so I decided to stay in a hotel. Being away from home can compromise my diet. I was determined to stay healthy, and this video takes you on a little tour through Super Target to see what exactly I found to eat for dinner. Here is what I came up with:
First off, in the fruit section, I found some bananas. I grabbed 2. One for tonight and one for morning. Next I made it to find a vegetable. I found some sugar snap peas. I plan on eating some cold, and steaming the rest. Next I made it to the meat to get some protein. I found a bag of grilled/seasoned chicken breast strips. A nice option to put on the Pocket Thins I found next, and create a sandwhich/wrap. 100% whole grain pocket thins. Similar to a pita wrap. This was the end of my shopping. I should be able to make at least 2 sandwiches out of this, and be satisfied for dinner tonight. The total price came to $8.83.
I used about 1/2 bag of peas and 1/2 the bag of chicken on a sandwich, and the nutrition facts came to: 250 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, and 29 grams of protein. So at only 250 calories per sandwich, I ended up making 2 sandwiches.
I hope this video/post is helpful and can give you an idea of one of the ways to stay healthy while on the road.
