While it seems the entire bodybuilding and weightlifting community knows about the allegations against Craze for containing un-labeled meth-like compounds, Detonate from Gaspari nutrition has also been shown to contain the same compounds. It is interesting how everyone has heard about Craze, but little has been mentioned about Detonate.
Gaspari may have done a great job of damage control, or Detonate is just not as widely used as Craze. Either way, both supplements were tested and shown to contain the same compuound N,alpha-diethylphenylethylamine;
So what is N,alpha-diethylphenylethylamine?
N,alpha-diethylphenylethylamine is the meth-like compound that has been found in DS Craze and Gaspari's detonate. It is the compound responsible for numerous failed drug-tests from athletes and "natural" bodybuilders.
In the most recent report, published today in Drug Testing and Analysis, the researchers noted that a different substance — N,N-diethylphenylethylamine — is listed on the Craze label, but that the substance actually found is N,a-DEPEA and is not listed.
Craze, marketed by Driven Sports Inc., contains an ingredient the company says comes from a dendrobium orchid. But researchers at Harvard Medical School, NSF International and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, Netherlands, say the compound, N,alpha-diethylphenylethylamine, or N,a-DEPEA, is made in a lab and has a molecular structure similar to meth.
They believe the new compound is likely less potent than methamphetamine but greater than ephedrine. There are suggestions about how it's tweaked that it should not be as addictive as meth, but because it hasn't been studied in humans, its dangers aren't known.
