This is a review for protein pancake mix from MetRx, original buttermilk flavor. I typically make my own protein pancakes, and have a few different recipes that I make quite frequently. I noticed this product on bodybuilding.com and found it very intriguing. [read the rest of the review below the video...]
The pancake mix from MetRx seemed very easy to make, and I thought it would be beneficial when I am strapped for time and need something quick to make for breakfast or a snack.
The directions were to mix 2 scoops of the mix with 1/3 cup of water. That is exactly what I did, and then I followed the directions and poured the batter into my preheated pan, and cooked for roughly 1 1/2 minutes per side, flipping only once. This seemed to be an adequate amount of cooking time.
The pancake I made turned out very nicely. The serving size was three small pancakes, but I preferred to make just one large pancake. It was fluffy, and had great taste and texture. I did not taste like protein at all, and the buttermilk flavor was great.
Nutrition facts: each serving (2 scoops of mix) contains 200 calories, 2.5g fat, 8g sugars, and 12 g protein. I found the nutrition content to be pretty solid. The pancake mix contains minimal fat content, with a decent amount of protein, and not too much sugar. Also, the first ingredient listed is Wheat flour, so that is a bonus.
I purchased this product from bodybuilding.com for $13.98. It is a 2 lb. tub, that contains 16 total servings. Assuming one would eat one serving per meal, that would work out to about 88 cents per serving. I would consider that a decent price.
Overall, I would recommend this product if you are looking for a protein pancake mix. We do have a few protein pancake recipes under breakfast recipes: http://www.sixpacksmackdown.com/category/recipes/breakfast/ if you are interested in making your own. However, if you are looking for a great tasting, quick, healthy breakfast, these pancakes would be a nice option.
