Universal Nutrition believes they set a new standard when it comes to post-workout nutrition with their anabolic muscle activating supplement, Torrent.
I received this trial size a while ago when I had purchased Universal Nutrition's Shock Therapy. I finally got around to trying it out.
Highlights: 20 grams of easily absorbed Hydro Whey and some free form aminos Full daily dose of advanced creatines (3 grams) Big supply of Leucine to trigger anabolic growth 48 grams carb complex to trigger insulin spike
I actually really like the contents of this product. I am a big fan of protein and carbs post workout. The hydro whey is a bonus, as it is the most rapidly absorbing protein. As for the carb-protein ratio, that is debatable (some prefer 1:1, 2:1, even 3:1). The product is also convenient in that it contains creatine, and the added leucine.
Now, the big question for me was going to be the taste. I had tried Shock therapy in the past (another Universal product), and the taste was not very good. Torrent, however, surprised me. The stuff tastes like red powerade. I thought it had very good flavor, it mixed well, and went down easily.
A couple of issues I noticed are: The serving size is 3 scoops (these are normal big scoopers too). This is a lot of powder, which means you will have to mix in at least 20oz of water. This may or may not be an issue for some people. The other thing is the price. For a 28 serving tub, the cost on bodybuilding.com is $58!! That is over $2/serving, which is over double the price I would like to pay.
