So, you find yourself surfing the web and online forums reading about people "eating clean" or having other community members critique their nutrition plan. You've heard about a "clean bulk" and "dirty bulk" and are wondering what all of it means.

There aren't really that many fitness goals you can achieve without eating clean. That being said, let's get to the point and answer the question "What Is Clean Eating?"

The Basis For Clean Eating is: Consuming food in its most natural state, or as close to it as possible.

It is important to note that clean eating is not a diet and not necessarily a way to lose weight, but merely an approach to food selection and food preparation. That being said, most people who are trying to lose some weight or even pack on some muscle will follow a "clean" diet since "clean" foods are typically healthier, contain less chemicals and also contain more proteins, vitamins and minerals while having less sodium and "chemicals".

If you are thinking about getting started with clean eating, here are a few guidelines you can use to get going:

  1. Drink at least 1/2 gallon of water per day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Consume healthy fats and shy away from saturated fats and fried foods
  4. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (if it's raw and a plant, it's probably clean)
  5. Eat lean cuts of meat and avoid fatty red meats
  6. Eat five to six times per day.

These steps should help you be on your way to clean eating!
